A special construction is used to create this fabric, where the design is printed onto the unwoven cotton warp (the vertical yarns make up the base of the fabric) and the fabric is then woven with a natural colour linen weft.

This technique was originally developed in the late 19th century, which gives fantastic diffused effects and subtlety of colour. This lost manufacturing process has recently been rediscovered.
